Many of the characters from the TV series of Keeping Up Appearances will be very familiar to Hobart audiences. However, unlike many TV adaptations, this play was not just a reworked collection of TV episodes but was instead specifically written for the stage.

The action opens in a suburban community hall where our much loved social climber, Hyacinth, is displaying her new painting “Willow by Moonlight” at the annual art exhibition. In the same venue, her long-suffering neighbour Emmet, and his kind-hearted sister Elizabeth are staging a murder

ABOUT THE PLAY

mystery for the local amateur dramatic society.

When Hyacinth hears that the part of Lady Malvern is yet to be cast, it seems that nothing will stand in her way in taking on the role. But there are a few hurdles to overcome. Despite Hyacinth’s best efforts, Emmet and Elizabeth are willing to go to considerable lengths to keep her out of the play. Much to Hyacinth’s dismay, the cast also mainly consists of her undesirable family members - sister Daisy and her husband Onslow, lusty sister Rose and well, Daddy. Has the scene been set for a disaster in the making?
